Monitoring - Additional servers have been brought online, and response times are returning to normal.

We've identified the root cause of this incident. Our automatic scale-up policy brings new servers online during periods of heavy traffic, but the servers we were adding had limited capacity to handle long sustained periods of high load. To prevent this from happening again, we're going to make a change to our scale-up policy so that the servers we add to handle traffic spikes are better prepared to handle extended periods of heavy traffic.

Monitoring - After investigating, we think that the heavy load was caused by slow and expensive bot requests on a rarely-used page. The app has recovered, and we're currently fixing that page's performance. We'll continue to monitor the app and update our status when the performance fixes are deployed.
